Welcome to Wertheimer Middle School, a student-centered environment where safety, big thinking, bold learning, and bright futures are my priorities for every student. As your children transition from elementary to middle school, blending five elementary groups and including students new to our district into one school family is what makes our school so unique. My focus is to ensure that our students learn how to manage their time, emotions, develop habits that will enhance the remainder of their academic careers, and learn to think critically about the content they learn. I am always available to students and am just an email away if there is a need I can assist with. We want your child to love Wertheimer, and I promise to take care of them while they are at school.
Your child's schedules should be live and active. Please understand that in secondary we use an auto schedule function to place students in classes with the exception of course that are only offered one period or for students with IEPs who must be in a particular class. Therefore, we cannot guarantee your child will have a particular teacher or class period. After the first week of school, some student schedules will change, so that teachers have a balanced class load.
I ask that you not send the counselors unkind messages for schedule adjustments that they have to make in order to keep classes balanced. They try to work with parents as much as possible, but there is no way to guarantee that all 540 children have each teacher at the class period they desire when we have to balance classes.
In addition, if you did not sign up for bus service by August 3rd, please have arrangements for your child for the first two weeks. Transportation will not allow unregistered students to ride home on the bus.
Communication between home and school is essential in making middle school successful. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
Ms. Scott, Principal

The doors of the school open at 8:20 a.m. for students to enter the building. School starts at 9:05 a.m. Please do not drop your children off before 8:20 a.m. as there is no adult supervision before that time. To ensure the safety of staff and students, anyone without an LCISD Employee Badge, must be scanned through Raptor and get a Visitor's Badge when entering the building. Since the front office staff will be busy with new student registration and helping students get to the correct area of the building, Wertheimer will not have visitors the first three days of school. Car riders will enter through the main entrance at the FRONT of the school only. Bus riders will enter through the BACK cafeteria doors. On the first day, students will receive the name of their first period teacher from the staff in the hallway. Students will walk to the gym and sit under that teacher's name. Their first period teacher will pick them up from the gym and walk them to class where they will receive their schedules and ID badges. There will be lots of staff helping kids find their way! Don't worry!
If students would like breakfast, they may eat in the cafeteria prior to entering the gym.

Car Rider Dismissal: We will check with students multiple times during the day to be sure they know how to go home. Car riders begin to be released at 4:30 p.m. and the process is usually completed within 20 minutes, if procedures are followed. ONLY enter the line from FM 723. Beadle RD is closed for the next year. Do not drive through the back parking lot to get to the car line. Students will not be released for car pick up in the back or the side. DO not park in the back. We cannot have cars impeding the flow of LCISD Transportation or students running in between cars to get to their parents. The only pick-up and drop-off spot for car riders is the front of the building. The back and side areas are for LCISD Transportation ONLY. To ensure that all students get home safely, we ask that all transportation changes and early pick-ups be made no later than 4:00 p.m. and that student transportation remains as consistent as possible.
|
Bus Rider Dismissal: We will check with students multiple times during the day to be sure they know their bus number. Buses may run late the first week of school. Drivers work hard to be sure every student gets on the right bus and home safe, so it may take longer. Students will be called to their bus as it arrives on our bus porch in back. Students need to have their ID Badge to scan on and off of the bus each day. If you have a My Stop APP Account, you can monitor the bus your student is on when they scan their tag. To ensure that all students get home safely, we ask that all transportation changes be made no later than 4:00 p.m. and that student transportation remains as consistent as possible.

The Versatrans MyStop app is a mobile app that allows parents and guardians to track the real-time location of their child's school bus and provide an estimated arrival time at their assigned bus stop. The MyStop app also sends mobile notifications to parents when the student scans on and off the bus. The Versatrans MyStop app is available for both Android and Apple devices. Every student will have a unique username and password to login.
Please be aware that your student(s) previous bus stop may have changed for the upcoming school year. If you do not register for bus transportation, your student(s) will not be receiving services and/or they may not have a designated bus stop.
-
August 3: Deadline to submit form for students who want to receive bus transportation on the first day of school (Monday, August 11). THIS DEADLINE IS CLOSED.
-
August 4 - 22: During this time, if families fill out the form requesting bus transportation for a student, the student will start receiving bus transportation on Monday, August 25.
-
August 23 and beyond: During this time, if families fill out the form requesting bus transportation for a student, the student will start receiving bus transportation five school days after the form is submitted.
With My Stop, you can now access your student’s bus route through the e-link to view:
- Route number
- Bus stops
- Estimated arrival/drop-off times
Guardians can register one student. If they have more students within the district, they will be added to the same account. To login, you need your student(s) ID number and date of birth.

Walker Dismissal: We will check with students multiple times during the day to be sure they know how they are going home. Students whose parent/guardian or emergency pick-up work at Briscoe or Foster are the ONLY students allowed to walk to Briscoe or Foster after school. These students must have a permission letter on file in the front office from their parent/guardian. You may email or give it to our receptionist, Donna.Weishimer@lcisd.org. Then, upon approval from Principal Scott through verification with the principals at Foster and Briscoe, the student will be able to walk over after school.
Walkers will be the last group released. We do not have staff to physically walk the students to both schools. Therefore, they will not be released until car rider dismissal is complete, and we are able to safely cross them. To ensure that all students get home safely, we ask that all transportation changes be made no later than 4:00 p.m. and that student transportation remains as consistent as possible.

What to bring on the first day! Students will follow their schedule the first day, but will participate in what we call "Hawk Camp". This is where we teach students our campus procedures - how to change classes, how to get lunch, where to go for help, and what our behavior expectations are. Students only need their backpack with a pencil and a notebook; teachers will let them know what to bring the rest of the week. Students will never bring all of their supplies at one time. They only bring what they need for the day. Students will not need their P.E. uniform on the first day. The coaches will let them know when to bring their lock for their P.E. locker and when they have to start dressing out. P.E. shirts previously purchased will be distributed during class. Coaches will provide students with the information on how to purchase a shirt if they have not already done so.

We're excited for your child to no longer wear a uniform, but make sure you and your child review district policy regarding dress code. Below is the link to the to the Secondary Student Handbook and Student Code of Conduct. It has lots of good information including the most updated Dress Code and Student Discipline Policies. Please review the information with your child, so that everyone is on the same page. We have also included a visual guide to the Wertheimer Dress Code. We will review the expectations the first week of school. We will notify you after the School Board Meeting if anything is changed or updated.

During the 89th Texas Legislative Session, House Bill 1481 was passed, prohibiting students from using personal communication devices during the school day and on school property. This change includes cell phones, smartwatches, tablets, radios, and similar devices. The law applies to all Texas public and open-enrollment charter schools, including Lamar CISD. Exceptions are made for students with documented medical needs or special education accommodations.
What This Means for Lamar CISD Students (PK–12)
Beginning with the 2025–2026 school year, Lamar CISD will implement the following practices in accordance with the new law:
- All personal electronic devices, including cell phones and smartwatches, must be turned off before entering campus.
- Devices must be stored in backpacks or lockers—not on the student’s person (e.g., clothing pockets)—and must remain powered off and completely out of view throughout the school day.
- Use or visible possession of any personal communication device during the school day will result in confiscation and disciplinary consequences.
This includes all areas inside the school building such as:
- Classrooms
- Libraries
- Cafeterias
- Hallways
- Restrooms
- Locker rooms
- Any other common spaces
Devices may be turned back on only after the final bell at dismissal, at which time students may use them to communicate with parents or guardians regarding transportation or other after-school needs.
Dismissal Times by Grade Level
- Elementary A: 2:40 PM (7:15 AM – 2:40 PM)
- Elementary B: 3:10 PM (7:45 AM – 3:10 PM)
- Middle School / Junior High: 4:30 PM (9:05 AM – 4:30 PM)
- High School: 3:50 PM (8:25 AM – 3:50 PM)
Please note: Receiving a call or text from a parent or family member during class is not an acceptable reason for device use. If you need to reach your child during the school day, please call the school’s front office, and we will ensure your message is delivered.
If a student needs to make an emergency call during the day, they should report to the front office.

Food Info! Students may bring lunches on the first day or get a school lunch. Breakfast and lunch are not automatically free unless you qualify for free or reduced-price meals and have completed the required application online; snacks and "extras" are not free. Change is not provided in the lunch line. All money will go into your child's account. If you need to add money to your child's account, please go to https://www.schoolcafe.com/. You will need to know your child's student ID.
For health and safety concerns, parents are only allowed to bring outside food for their personal child(ren). Please plan for personal celebrations before/after school. No drinks (other than water) or food in the hallway. Please make sure the water bottle has a lid, and if your child is bringing a Stanley Cup, it has a straw topper, leak-proof kit, or has the flip top straw. No gum allowed.
